Tool Name: Center
Author: Adspec Programming
Last Revision: Dec 21, 1993;
______________________________________________________________
PURPOSE: To center selected polys on axis of choice.
Polys may be centered in groups, or as individual polys
along 1, 2 or all 3 major axes independently.
______________________________________________________________
RESTRICTIONS:
None.
Ok to use on complex polys even if textured.
NOTE:
complex polys that are textured will have to have their
textures reapplied if:
1: you are in point permission mode
2: the complex poly is selected but has no permission.
______________________________________________________________
USE:
This tool can be used with either entered values or as an
interactive freehand centering tool.
The polys will change positions in the two axes opposite to the
selected axis, shown at the top of the tool box, corresponding to
the natural view direction when flat viewed.
If the Y axis is selected, (Y flat view)
the polys change in the X-Z plane.
If the X axis is selected, (X flat view)
the polys change in the Y-Z plane.
if the Z axis is selected, (Z flat view)
the polys change in the X-Y plane.
Note that permission flags (center axis gadgets) must be
selected to allow the change in the axis (axes) you want.
______________________________________________________________
FOR ENTERED VALUES:
1: Select the polys you want to change.
2: Click the RIGHT MOUSE BUTTON on the center gadget.
3: Edit the X,Y,Z PERCENT values to reflect the amount of change
you want. Values are unitized.
(1.0 is full change, 0.50 is half, etc)
4: Edit the center values as desired.
5: Select single, or group if desired.
6: Select the axis you want to center along.
7: Select the Perform gadget.
The window will close. After a brief pause, you will see the
changes occur.
If you do not approve of the changes, hit the escape key BEFORE using
the set command.
If you hit the ACCEPT gadget, no change will occur, but the defaults
you have entered will be there next time you open the tool.
______________________________________________________________
FOR FREEHAND CENTERING:
1: Select the polys you want to change.
2: Click the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON on the explode gadget.
3: Move the mouse pointer into the editor window.
4: Press and hold the LEFT MOUSE BUTTON while dragging the mouse.
You will see the selected polys change according to the currently
set defaults.
Note that there may be a brief pause before the tool activates
while the tool is preparing itself for operation.
There are two qualifiers you can use as you drag the mouse.
Note that the permission flags (center axis gadgets) must be
selected for centering to take place.
SHIFT: If you hold down the shift key, the polys will change in all
three dimensions equally.
ALT: If you hold down the alt key, the polys will change in the two
directions opposite to the selected axis. In other words, if
the Y axis is selected, the polys will change equally in the
XZ plane.
NONE: If you do not use a qualifier, the changes occur independently
in the two directions opposite to the selected axis. In other
words, if the Y axis is selected, the polys will change equally
in the XZ plane. The amount of change is relative to the
amount of change of the mouse independently in the two planes.
______________________________________________________________
PERCENT XYZ:
These values are only used in PERFORM mode. They correspond exactly
to the values you see printed in the window when using the tool in
the freehand mode.
If the value is at 0.0, no change will occur.
A value of 1.0 exerts full change.
A value of 2.0 exerts twice full change, etc.
The value can be negative or positive.
In FREEHAND mode, these values are ignored. Instead the values are
based on the distance the mouse has moved and the qualifiers in effect.
______________________________________________________________
CENTER XYZ:
These values are the position along each major axis that you want
the centering to converge to (or from or through, depending on the
value of the percents).
These values are a point in 3D space. For instance, values
of 0,0,0 will converge to the origin.
______________________________________________________________
CUR ATP:
If you click this gadget with the LMB, you will change the center
values to that of the current Attach Point.
______________________________________________________________
SINGLE POLY:
If this is ON, the tool will center EACH POLYGON independently.
Some very interesting effects can be achieved by using the tool
in this manner.
______________________________________________________________
POLY GROUPS:
If this is ON, the tool will center EACH GROUP independently.
Note that the groups established in the active group level are used.
If used in conjunction with the extrude's Single Group option, this
is quite useful for centering extruded text.
NOTE that single poly and poly groups are mutually exclusive.
Also if both are off, the tool will center ALL POLYS as a single
large group.
______________________________________________________________
CENTER DEFORMS:
If the polys you change have deform levels:
If this is ON, the deform levels will be changed, if OFF, they will
not be affected.
______________________________________________________________
CENTER AXIS:
These gadgets are permission gadgets for each major axis. If you
have the axis gadget depressed, the centering can take place along
this axis. If not, the axis will be ignored.
Note that at least one axis must be selected. If you attempt to
deselect all axes, the x axis will automatically be turned on.
